Samsung has released a gamepad for Galaxy line smartphones

Like it or not, and the physical buttons under the fingers - much more convenient than the touch surface. Of course, it all depends on the genre of the game. For example, in a strategy where fast and accurate movements are important, control using the touch screen is optimal. But in action games, car simulators and first-person shooters - it's much more common to feel ordinary buttons and analog handles under the pads of your fingers. Samsung decided to please the supporters of the physical interface by releasing a special game gamepad.

Apple recently gave the go-ahead to third-party companies for the release of game gamepads for the iPhone with iOS 7 on board. The Samsung leadership decided that it was worth trying to develop such a gamepad on its own and announced the “Smartphone GamePad” - not so hot as an ingenious name, but for the beginning it will fit. The device supports smartphones with Android version 4.1 and higher. Owners of smartphones based on the operating system above version 4.3 will be able to use some exclusive functions of the controller, for example, data transmission via the NFC protocol and so on.

Unlike iPhone gamepads, which are worn directly on the body of a smartphone, Samsung’s development is a separate controller with a phone holder. The controller supports communication with the controlled device via Bluetooth technology.

The gamepad weighs 195 grams, on its frontal surface there is an 8-sided D-PAD (the so-called “control cross” in the West), two floating analog handles, four round buttons, and on the controller there are two triggers (in common) ). Also at the bottom of the controller there are tiny Start and Select keys and a trigger to turn on / off the device. In the center of the controller is the mysterious oblong Play key.

The controller is planned to be distributed with the special application The Mobile Console App, through which the user can search and purchase games compatible with the device. Apparently, the controller will support any devices based on Android 4.1 and above, but exclusive functions, such as using the Play button (the purpose of which is still a mystery to us), can only be used in conjunction with the Galaxy line of smartphones.

The device is already on sale in some European countries. In other regions, according to Samsung representatives, it can be expected within a few weeks. The price of the device, oddly enough, has not yet been announced.
