Media: Microsoft Lumia 940 will receive an iris scanner and a docking station

Microsoft Lumia 930

In the next flagship smartphone series Lumia will be implemented a number of innovative technologies. It is reported that Microsoft is working on an iris scanner for Lumia 940, unlike many other smartphone manufacturers that use fingerprint scanning for biometric identification. The iris scanner is based on imaging technology in the near infrared range, therefore, it works in low light conditions.

This is written by a well-known resource Fudzilla with reference to anonymous sources.

The advantage of using the iris scanner is that the user does not need to touch the sensor and do unnecessary gestures. The negative point, however, is that the scanner does not shine through sunglasses.

Another innovative feature of the new flagship should be the port for the docking station. But information about it is still not enough. If the data is confirmed, then Lumia 940 will be the first Windows-based smartphone with docking support to connect additional accessories or work as a standalone computer like a Motorola Atrix mobile device.

Special sensors and software will determine which hand the person is using the smartphone. This is another feature of Lumia 940.

As for the hardware, the new smartphone will receive a Qualcomm chip, although it was previously reported that Microsoft will use Snapdragon 805, manufactured on a 28-nanometer process. Snapdragon 810 (20 nm) is also considered as an option.

It is expected that the smartphone Lumia 940 will have a camera with 20-30 megapixels with three LED flashes.

Microsoft has already confirmed that the flagship Lumia smartphone based on Windows 10 will be released after the operating system is ready for mass use.
