From the moment the Galaxy Note line was announced, owners or potential owners of Note 2 probably wondered whether it was worth updating, or better, taking advantage of the moment to buy at a reduced price Note 2, when local sellers lower prices to clean their warehouses. Let's compare the technical characteristics of Galaxy Note 3 2013 release and Galaxy Note 2 2012 and find out whether the game is worth the candle.
The size
Both gadgets have the same height. However, in the new model, Samsung decided to focus its attention on the thickness of the device and therefore made it thinner by one millimeter. If we consider that the new product has received a larger diagonal display, while maintaining, and in some places even reducing its size, the Galaxy Note 3 is pulled ahead.
Weight
Another positive change that the new phablet model boasts is its reduced weight - the Galaxy Note 3 is about 7 percent lighter than the Galaxy Note 2.
Housing
Perhaps the most significant external change in the new model should be considered its body. Samsung decided to abandon the traditional glossy plastic in the new Note 3 and uses artificial leather here. It is quite possible this is some kind of new plastic coating, but at least now the device does not look "just plastic." Display
Perhaps the biggest reason for buying a new Note 3 may be its display. It is seven percent more than the old model, offers Full HD resolution, and has 125 percent more pixels.
CPU

The LTE version of the new product will operate on the basis of a fast quad-core Snapdragon 800, while the HSPA + version will receive a Samsung eight-core Samsung Exynos octa chipset. In other words, the Galaxy Note 3 promises to be one of the fastest mobile devices for the remaining 2013 year.
RAM
Two gigabytes of RAM, which are used in Note 2 is more than enough for modern tasks. However, Samsung is looking to the future and offers in the new Note 3 as much as 3 GB of RAM. This is the largest amount of RAM among all smartphones on the market.
Permanent memory
Samsung decided to skip the version with 16 GB of permanent memory and the new Note offers only two options: either 32 GB or 64 GB. Considering how much the 16-gigabyte version of the Galaxy S4 eats is a set of standard applications, the rejection of the younger model may seem like a really wise decision.
Battery
Despite the fact that the Galaxy Note 2 already offers one of the best batteries on the market, Samsung not only promises a new battery with a higher power consumption (3200 mAh vs. 3100 for Note 2), but also shows that the display (despite the fact that it is larger) is less “gluttonous” in the new device. It will be interesting to know how things will be with real tests.
Cameras
The main rear camera in the new device also received an update and now corresponds to a 13-megapixel optical sensor, which is used in the Galaxy S4. The front camera is now 2 megapixel, not 1.9 megapixel, like in Note 2.
Wireless capabilities
It is foolish to already compare the capabilities of devices in this category, because almost every top-end modern smartphone has among other things support for the LTE communication standard. The exception, perhaps, is only the Nexus 4, but his days are already numbered.
Software
New Note 3 is running the latest operating system (at least for now, until Android 4.4 Kit Kat appears) Android 4.3. Release 4.3 is promised for Note 2. If you believe the latest rumors, it should happen this fall. Most importantly, Samsung added "under the hood" of the operating system Jelly Bean.
And here, as is the case with the Galaxy S4, a whole ton of various useful (and not so) applications, along with the TouchWiz software add-on top. And if everything is clear to everyone with the Galaxy S4 and TouchWiz, then TouchWiz on Note 3 is interesting. And all because the device uses, among other things, an updated electronic pen S Pen. And its full potential is revealed in Note 3: the device allows you to create “active notes” by converting handwritten text (typed S pen) into printed text. With the help of written commands, you can even call the number you need, find the right address, add contact or information in the search and much more; “Album of fragments” allows you to collect all the necessary information from different sources (websites, video services, galleries, etc.) and organize it in one place, while maintaining links to the originals; the "instant comments" feature allows you to make a signature on any screenshot you have just taken; "S Finder" can be used as an advanced search for any information in the memory. Note 3. You can search by keywords, built-in filters (by date, file type, location). In this case, information can even be searched for that which is written by hand; The window-in-window function is perhaps the most visible extension of the S Pen. In this case, an electronic pen can be used not only for recording and editing drawings, but also for working with windows in the multi-window mode. Use the stylus to draw the required window size and open the application in it. Any, whether it is a browser, YouTube app or calculator. At the same time, all other open programs will continue to work further.
Conclusion
As expected, in almost all respects, the new device has become better than its predecessor. A new processor, enlarged in size and resolution, a more succinct screen with reduced dimensions, new software functions, a new package in the end.
So is it worth buying a new device as soon as it appears on the shelves? If you are the owner of Note 2, I personally would advise to wait for the first tests in real conditions and the feedback from the very first buyers. If you only want to purchase a new device and make a choice between Note 2 "now" and Note 3 "later", then the choice will also be complicated by the fact that the stores are likely to significantly lower the cost of last year's phablet, and the new queue will cost as much as 35 thousand. But if to speak as a whole, Note 3 already now seems to be a very worthy update of the line.
