The iPhone screens supplier showed a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440

5,5-дюймовый Quad HD-дисплей JDI

Japan Display (JDI) announced that it was ready to launch Quad HD display (2560 x 1440 pixels) of its own design in April. The production of a 5.5-inch panel will be conducted using advanced low-temperature polysilicon technology (LTPS), which reduces the power consumption of the module. In the past, this manufacturer introduced a 12.1-inch screen with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels for tablets.

The question involuntarily arises: can this display be used in the next generation iPhone, the appearance of which is expected by the end of summer or the beginning of autumn (there are different opinions on this matter). According to preliminary data, the smartphone iPhone 6 will be released in two versions of the screen: 4.7 and 5.5 inches. The latter option is the same size as the new panel of the Japanese company. But this is not the only reason why a 5.5-inch Quad-HD JDI display can appear on the Apple device. Earlier, the Japanese edition Nikkei reported that Apple is banking on Japan Display, which will be included in the list of suppliers of screens for the iPhone 6.

According to Nikkei, the mass production of LCD displays for the new iPhone will begin in the second quarter of this year (beginning in April) at factories of various companies, including Sharp, Japan Display and LG Electronics. This is consistent with JDI's plans for its new display.

On the other hand, as practice shows, Apple avoids publicity about the components prior to their release in a particular device under their brand. Summarizing all of the above, we can say that there is every reason to believe that the preview display JDI with a diagonal of 5.5 inches is designed for the "sixth" iPhone.

It should also be noted that the Japan Display portfolio also includes Quad-HD displays at 5.4 and 6.2 inches, but the 5.5-inch panel will be the first to go into mass production. Interestingly, the leading manufacturers of smartphones, such as Samsung and Apple, have not officially announced a single device with Quad HD-display, but Chinese competitors have already started to do it. In the forefront was the Vivo company, which at the end of last year introduced the 6-inch Xplay 3s smartphone with a Quad HD display to the world.

The dimensions of the 5.5-inch (5.46-inch, to be precise) of the JDI display are 70.94 x 128.26 x 1.35 millimeters, and the pixel density is 538ppi. Visibility of the screen exceeds 160 degrees.

In turn, the 4.7-inch version of the iPhone 6, according to rumors, will have a screen with a resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels, which again is more than the 4-inch iPhone 5s (1136 x 640). Whatever it was, the whole truth about the next iPhone will become known closer to their official premiere. So be patient and wait.
