Motorola plans to release a modular smartphone

Yesterday, Motorola, in its official blog, presented its new project called Ara (Ara). As part of this project, the company proposed the idea of ​​creating a modular mobile phone.

Motorola offered to create a smartphone that can be assembled from various components from different manufacturers. This is a kind of analogue of Android, but not in software, but in hardware. The company plans to create a specific ecosystem that can support third-party hardware designs for individual phone components.

In other words, buying a phone, it does not mean that when manufacturers update their components, you have to buy a completely new device. You can only replace the processor, memory, screen or much more in a smartphone.

“Our goal is to create more expressive and open relationships between users, developers, and their phones. By this we want to give you the opportunity to decide for yourself what your phone does, how it looks, what components it consists of and how long you will use it, ”writes Motorola in its blog.

The company plans to collaborate with Dave Hackens, who has already put forward ideas for creating modular phones. So, perhaps, in the future, thanks to Motorola, we will not be able to spend money on a complete replacement of your smartphone, but only to upgrade it, and perhaps change its shape.
