Intellectual electronics has long gone beyond science fiction stories and has approached a person at a dangerously close distance. Experts at Gartner research firm warn that the future is much closer than we imagine.
Every year smartphones are becoming smarter, and by 2017 they will become smarter than you. If there are traffic jams on the roads, the device will wake you ahead of time so that you will not be late for a meeting with the boss, or send a message with an apology if this is a meeting with colleagues. The smartphone will examine the calendar, information from the sensors, the location of the user and his personal data, - says the vice-president of Gartner, Carolina Milanese.
The smartphone will predict your actions based on the data it has. This will be possible thanks to the so-called technique of conscious calculation. Most tasks will be performed automatically.
Applications will learn to guess the desires and needs of the user by collecting and analyzing the necessary data in real time, says Ms. Milanezi.
At first, smartphones will perform routine work tied to a calendar — for example, putting a car in for technical inspection or sending greeting messages. As they progress, they will learn to respond to e-mail and book tickets.
But this does not mean that smartphones will become smarter than their owners in the truest sense of the word. They will simply have access to large amounts of data that will be diligently studied. And this is in case users agree to provide them with personal information.
For many years, mobile phones have served as a reliable means of communication with other people. They have changed the development path of other electronic devices, from personal computers to televisions. The era of cloud computing has opened them access to large amounts of information. Over the next five years, the devices will use personal data to improve the quality of our lives, she adds.
The future of smart devices is discussed at the Gartner Symposium / ITxpo 2013 event held in Barcelona from November 10-14.
