Rumors that Nokia is preparing an Android-smartphone, go for a long time. Even know its code name - Nokia Normandy. A few days ago there was a reliable confirmation of the information that the recent acquisition of Microsoft is going to present its Android-novelty at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. And that's why…

According to the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing well-informed people, Nokia plans this month to introduce a smartphone running a special version of Google’s operating system. Before that, there were some doubts about the release of the Android-smartphone under the Nokia brand, because it might not be interesting for the new owner of the Finns, who diligently promotes their own Windows Phone platform. However, in this regard, could change the top management of the company. Perhaps the new head of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, approved the Android project.

The decision of the two companies to release the Android-phone indicates how much they miscalculated in the issue of smartphones. The Windows Phone operating system was not focused on low-price smartphones, which are a powerful source of sales, especially in emerging markets, where, before the arrival of Android, Nokia felt better than anyone.

It seems that now Microsoft is not averse to outsource part of its mobile product line to Android. This will increase its sales and cover the high costs associated with competition with such giants as Google, Apple and Samsung Electronics, sources say. Meanwhile, Microsoft will focus on promoting Windows Phone, which will compete with premium smartphones - these are the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy devices.

It is not clear at what time period this measure is intended, because now Microsoft is working on adapting its operating system to the hardware requirements of low-priced smartphones. But, sources say, Nokia devices will be different from many other Android smartphones, including the lack of access to Google features and applications from Google Play. Instead, users will be offered joint services of Nokia and Microsoft. In places, this strategy has something in common with the approach used by the online retailer Amazon. Its tablets are controlled by a modified version of the operating system that is incompatible with Android applications.

As one of the reasons for buying Nokia, Microsoft cites the desire to improve its position in emerging markets.

Nokia declined to comment on rumors regarding the Android smartphone currently being actively discussed.
