Being one of the leaders in the production of display technology, it is not surprising that Samsung is trying to bring innovations in this field to the market. One of the latest such innovations thundered at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 exhibition, when the South Korean giant presented its new creation - flexible and bendable Youm displays for the so-called new-generation folding smartphones equipped with three-directional displays. Then the company also introduced the first prototype of such a device.
And although such products were described by the company as devices of the future, according to Korea Herald, the technology of flexible displays for smartphones will very soon turn into a real reality.
"At the end of this year, Samsung will release several million curved smartphones of the Galaxy line, trying to firmly fill the niche of these still futuristic devices for us," Song Chen-Ho, analysts at South Korean company KDB Daewoo Securities, confidently predicts in an interview with the newspaper Korea Herald.
Samsung has already released the world's first curved smartphone, Galaxy Round, but, according to the publisher, the company is not yet ready to release this model on the world market. Therefore, the device is available for sale only in a few countries, which can very positively play into the hands of its competitors. Smartphone G Flex from LG, which was also initially released only to its domestic market, will soon become available worldwide.
Curved smartphones are one thing and bending displays are another. According to the South Korean print publishing, the introduction of technology bending displays on the world market seems even more challenging, so Samsung is not in a hurry in this direction. Yet the next innovative product, which will release the South Korean giant, will be just folding smartphone, which will be equipped with a three-directional display. According to analysts, one of the main reasons why Samsung is not in a hurry with the release of such devices is that the company still needs to work very seriously with battery technology, which it has clearly not been doing lately.
“Curved devices are the first step to checking the market and its reaction to folding devices, which, I think, will appear in the second half of next year,” continues Song, saying that the next flagship smartphone (after the Galaxy S5) will be it is the folding model.
Truth in these words can bring the statement of the deputy chairman of the board of directors of Samsung Electronics Kwon O-Hen, who said that the company will present the emerging display in 2015.
