Samsung spoke about the timing of the release of Tizen-smartphones and its attitude towards Android

South Korean company Samsung told about its plans for Tizen. In an interview with Reuters, senior vice president of the Samsung Product Strategy Team, Khankil Yun, said that smartphones on the Tizen operating system will debut in the second quarter of this year, that is, in April-July.

Initially, the output of smartphones running the operating system Tizen, built on the basis of Linux, was planned to be implemented last year. However, Samsung canceled their launch in Japan and Europe, explaining this by "improper market conditions".

The head of the company said that the Tizen-devices will be designed "for several countries in which Samsung can be successful," in other words, where Android could not win the trust of some consumers. To succeed, the mobile platform Tizen will need to collect at least 15 percent of the total volume of deliveries of Samsung smartphones per year, he said.

According to Yun, Samsung will release at least two Tizen-smartphones, which will fall into different price categories. One device will belong to the class of devices of high technical level, the other - of medium. At the same time, he specified that "Android will continue to be the company's main business", and Tizen and Windows Phone will work on problematic Android territories.

Samsung decided to take a close look at Tizen after Google began to promote Android towards wearable devices that promise to become a new hit. It's no secret that both companies simultaneously cooperate and compete with each other.

Samsung has already introduced several Tizen devices to the market. The company used its operating system in new smartwatch Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, which went on sale last week. Obviously, the compatibility of these smart clocks with Android-based third-party smartphones will turn Tizen into a competitor to Android. This is what Samsung is trying to achieve now.

Interestingly, in the second half of this year, Samsung, according to Yun, plans to release a smartwatch based on Android.
