Intel has finally found a big client for its mobile chips. Taiwanese Asus, recently released a stylish smart watch, reported the use of Intel chips in its new hybrid device, the so-called tablet tablet Asus Padfone X Mini.

Intel, which dominates the PC market, plans to expand its activities to the mobile devices market. For many years, the company unsuccessfully tried to move its competitor Qualcomm and introduce its own chips in smartphones sold in the world's largest markets. In this case Intel counts not only on Asus, but also on AT & T, one of the largest US telecom operators, which with its services 4G covers about 300 million subscribers in the US.

In an interview with VentureBeat, the head of Mobile Communication Group of Intel corporation Herman Yul said that for its new device Asus chose two Intel chips. Hybrid Padfone X Mini will go on sale with a price tag of only $ 200, and without binding to the contract of the operator of communication.

After fixing the 4.5-inch smartphone in the dock, it turns into a 7-inch tablet. It is enough to insert the phone into the connector on the back of the station casing to scale the applications on a larger screen. This mode also supports making calls. The docking station has its own SIM card slot and a lithium-ion battery. The device offers 16 hours of battery life in smartphone mode and 28 hours in tablet mode.

The catch is that the Padfone X Mini is not a high-tech mobile device. First of all, it is noteworthy that it is the first Intel-smartphone widely available in the States. All its power is only in this.

Padfone X Mini is equipped with LTE-module Intel, 2-core Atom Z2560 processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz and 1 gigabyte of RAM. The internal memory is 8 GB, but can be increased up to 64 GB through a microSD card.

If 1280 x 800 pixels is enough for a modern 7-inch tablet, then 854 x 480 pixels on the 4.5-inch screen of the smartphone do not provide a good picture. As Gizmodo writes, the screen has poor viewing angles, and the image looks dull.

Padfone X Mini uses two cameras: 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel frontal. As the operating system was chosen platform Android 4.4 (KitKat).

In fact Padfone X Mini is an updated version of PadFone mini, which entered the world market earlier, this year. It is still unknown whether there will be a novelty in other markets, except the US. In the States, sales of Padfone X Mini start on October 24.

Intel is doing everything to catch up with its competitor Qualcomm. At the end of last month, the company reported a major investment in two Chinese mobile chip manufacturers.
