The last twelve months have been tense for Motorola. Overloading, re-branding and the subsequent transfer of the company from the hands of Google into the hands of Lenovo. But that did not stop Motorola from continuing to produce great products. After the successful launch of Moto G, Moto E and Moto X, the company is ready to conquer new heights.
At the IFA 2014 conference in Berlin, Motorola today announced the update of its mobile lineup with new models of Moto X and Moto G smartphones, the Hint headset and, of course, the Moto 360 clock.
Moto 360
Let's start with the most interesting - hours. After seeing, many people really want to have a Moto 360 on their wrist. According to the management of Motorola, the development of Moto 360 focused on "style and craft." This is evident in the materials from which the watch was made: first-class stainless steel and high-quality leather were used here.
Slightly disappointing is the lack of sapphire crystal (a feature that is attributed to the not yet worn Apple iWatch wearable gadget), which is used in many premium-class watches. Instead, Moto 360 relies on Gorilla Glass 3 technology.
A slim and round display is what makes Moto 360 a truly welcome purchase. Its dimensions are 1.5-inches, and the resolution is 320 x 290 pixels. For comparison: LG G Watch has a resolution of 280 x 280 pixels, and Samsung Gear 2 has 320 x 320 pixels.
Asymmetric resolution is explained by the lost 30 pixels, whose place was taken by the ambient light sensor and the driver. Due to this, the display frame has been reduced.
Moto 360 weighs about 49 grams. Dimensions of the dial: 46 x 11 mm.
The watch is equipped with a double microphone, a heart rate sensor and a pedometer. And as the operating system is used "Google" Android Wear. The filling of the Moto 360 is as follows: 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal memory and a TI OMAP 3 processor, slightly inferior in performance to the Snapdragon 400 chipset, which is used in similar products from competitors.
Whether this will affect the work with resource-demanding applications for Android Wear, we still have to see. Motorola claims that its watches are able to function all day without recharging. Time will tell, but it's more than competing wearable devices that lose their charge by the end of the day.
Another nice feature of Moto 360 is the protection from water. The standard IP67 means that the watch is not afraid of splashing water, but are afraid of diving. Like other devices of this kind, Moto 360 supports connection to a smartphone (running Android 4.3 and higher) via Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy.
As for the price, in the US, the Motorola Moto 360 clock will cost $ 249. Their sales will begin in October.
Moto X (2014)
According to rumors, the successor of Moto X was to get the name Moto X + 1, but Motorola decided not to invent and retain the former name. The 4.7-inch 720p-display was replaced by the same AMOLED, but with a diagonal of 5.2 inches and a 1080p-resolution. This increased the weight of the smartphone, but not much - up to 144 grams. Thus, the device turned out to be 1 gram lighter than the 5.1-inch Samsung Galaxy S5. I must say that this is a great achievement, because the body of the new Moto X is made of aluminum, not plastic, like the first Moto X and Galaxy S5.
The new Moto X has the following dimensions: 140.8 x 72.4 x 9.97 mm.
Inside Moto X, there have also been changes. The new smartphone received the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, which uses the Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8. Great upgrade after Snapdragon S4 Pro. The same in the graphical part: Adreno 320 (450 MHz) was replaced by Adreno 330 (578 MHz).
This stuffing is a guarantee that the owners of the new Moto X will receive an Android update to version L (Android 5.0) within 30 days after the launch of the operating system, which should happen this month.
The standard camera was also updated: instead of a 10-megapixel sensor (F2.4) with LED flash and 1080p-video recording capability, a 13-megapixel sensor (f2.25) with a dual flash and 4K (Ultra HD) video recording is now used. The new smartphone also purchased an additional microphone (now four) and a more capacious battery (2300 instead of 2200 mAh). Given the less voraciousness of the new processor, this increase compensates for the energy costs to the large screen.
As in the case of the first Moto X, the Moto Maker service will allow you to modify the color, the material of the back cover and many other characteristics. In the US, the new Moto X will go on sale at a price of 499 dollars.
Moto G (2014)
The first Moto G brought Motorola a real success. For five months after the launch, the company sold 1 million copies of this model. This motivated Motorola to expand its sales markets.
The reason for the popularity of Moto G is simple: high specifications, high-quality assembly and attractive price. The new G, which before the launch of the media mistakenly called G2, followed the example of its predecessor.
The biggest update here was the diagonal of the screen, which increased from 4.5 to 5 inches. At the same time, the orientation to the previous resolution (1280 x 720) resulted in a reduction in the density of pixels (from 329 to 294ppi).
The new Moto G received a rear 8-megapixel camera (f2.0) and a front-facing camera with 2 megapixels. The speakers began to work with stereo sound, a microSD slot was added. Dimensions of the smartphone are now 141.5 x 70.7 x 6-11.5 mm, and weight - 149 grams.
Surprisingly, the changes did not affect the processor: the device uses the same aging 4-core Snapdragon 400 at 1.2 GHz and Adreno 305 GPU.
Another disadvantage is the lack of 4G support. But it is covered by the price. The new Moto G will cost $ 180.
Moto Hint
Hint is a tiny smart earpiece that replaces the Bluetooth headset. The device understands the voice of the host and can use Google Voice search. This gives an opportunity to receive answers to interesting questions, receive phone calls and use navigation without touching the smartphone.
