"Unbreakable" CAT S60: the world's first smartphone with a thermal imaging camera

One of the directions of American company Caterpillar is the production of so-called "non-slaughtered" phones. The other day the company introduced a new model of the device in this category, called CAT S60. The main feature of the novelty is that this device is the first smartphone with an integrated thermal imaging camera, thanks to the presence of the thermal module Lepton from FLIR.

Thanks to the thermal imaging camera CAT S60 is useful in construction. With the help of this camera, for example, you can notice the loss of heat around windows and doors, note the concentration of moisture, check the wires for lack of insulation, and also examine electrical circuits for their overheating. In addition, the camera allows you to see the thermal sources in complete darkness.

According to representatives of the company Caterpillar, the smartphone camera allows you to see heat sources that are invisible to the unaided human eye and make up an appropriate picture of the contrast of temperatures. Moreover, the camera is able to capture heat and measure the surface temperature level at a distance of up to 15-30 meters and see even through the smoke.

The CAT S60 smartphone itself is waterproof and able to hold an entire hour at a depth of up to 5 meters, which means that the camera of the device can be used even under water. The technical characteristics of the smartphone are also at a very decent level.

The device offers a 4.7-inch capacitive multi-touch display with a HD resolution of 720p. Display technology allows you to use the device with wet hands and even with gloves. For additional protection of the screen, the Gorilla Glass 4 coating is used.

The heart of the device is a 64-bit eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, which is assisted by 3 GB of RAM. Another 32 GB of memory is allocated for various software.

The protected smartphone runs on a battery with a capacity of 3800 mAh. The main camera of the device is 13-megapixel. It is equipped with a dual LED flash. The second camera, located on the front of the device, is 5 megapixel. The novelty CAT S60 running under the operating system Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There is support for 4G LTE.

The CAT S60 smartphone is going to be shown at the international mobile electronics exhibition MWC-2016, after which, later this year, it will go on sale at a price of 650 euros / 600 dollars.
